Who are we

Our family lives in Southwestern Oklahoma. We have 6 kids and a granddaughter with another grand baby on the way. Alyeen is studying to become a midwife with Midwife To Be. Brent is an engineer with a manufacturing company. Our children range in age from 21 down to 8 and have all been homeschooled. As with most families we have varied interests and talents. One interest that several of us share is the desire to serve other people in foreign countries. Alyeen's studies have finally led us to this possibility. Through Midwife to Be we have two possibilities to travel abroad with our family. One option is to visit the Dominican Republic for two weeks and work at a hospital serving laboring moms, while Brent and the kids work at the mission doing repairs and serving the community. Our second option is to visit Uganda for 2 weeks once again serving laboring women and helping local midwives, but also working in an orphanage. Tough decision!! Most of the family wants to go to Uganda 'first', then plan a trip to the Dominican Republic. Lofty goals this bunch has!!

We decided that starting this blog would be a good place to start our adventures. Among the requirements for these trips is for each participant to bring 100 pounds of items to donate. Toys, baby clothes, children's clothes, medical supplies are all allowed. There will be at least 5-6 of us going on the trip so that is 500 or 600 pounds of items!! Sounds a little overwhelming to me at the moment, but I know as we get things in order for the trip that if this is what we are supposed to be doing everything will fall into place.

Why are we telling you all of this? Well, with so many of us going and all the donations needed we thought that maybe there might be those that aren't able to do a trip like this, but could swing making some baby booties or collecting a few little toys or even spare a few bucks to help fund our trip.

We will be adding more information about the trips, donations, and events as we get them. This is not going to happen overnight, we have a lot of work to do over the next 2-3 years to get ready for this trip. So as you are planning community service projects for your organizations keep us in mind. Below you will find several links to the information we have on the Dominican Republic opportunity as well as ideas and patterns of things to make and or collect as donations. The Uganda trip is brand new to Midwife to Be and information is just beginning to be gathered on that opportunity, as soon as we know more about that trip we will post the information here.

Thanks for your help
